Helping during the holidays

Alright, so from time to time I ask for some donations here and there to help with this, that, and the other thing. This year will be no different. Thanks to your support JCE has raised money for various charities in the past and this year I wanted to try something a little different.

In an attempt to give back to the community this holiday season I would like ask you to check out instacanv.as/ike_dodge and there you will find my personal artwork. If you are looking for a different, strange, and unique to give as a gift this holiday, check out my work!

Support living artists, dead ones don't need your money, and while you are at it you would also be helping out others who are less fortunate! Can't say no to some cool art!

Not Lost But Found: Circus Contraption

Ladies and Gentlemen, esteemed members of cultured society, I am proud to present to you a tasty little treat known as Circus Contraption. This band is something out of the bizarre, it find itself in the realm of, “surreal circus.” Which happens to be their first album, now hopefully I haven’t lost you with that bit. This isn’t a circus that you may have been to as a child, no, this one has sexy women, ballerinas, dead women, vaudeville, bestiality, and darker macabre humor.

The band itself is actually more of a full on entertainment act. I found Circus Contraption in my search for steampunk music. If you like off colored humor, slightly odd musical acts, and have a great imagination, then this is a group you should look up. You can find them on iTunes and on Youtube (with some rather entertaining but poor quality films).

The group began in 1999 with the album title Circus Contraption: A Surreal Circus.  You won’t find this one on iTunes, but there are five other albums you can find on there. They are definitely worth a listen too. Have a listen to Hoochie Coochie Girls, Wicked Fascinations, and The Slaughter’s Promenade. These will give you a nice taste of their upbeat dark music. In the links below you can find their website.

Not Lost But Found: Mariachi El Bronx

Yes, it's been a while and there is plenty of music out there to be discovered. Here is one juicy little band I came across in my life’s travels. As you may have guessed from the title of this edition, the band is Mariachi El Bronx. This band as a very interesting sound and a more interesting background.

The band The Bronx, an American hardcore punk band formed in 2002, moonlights as Mariachi El Bronx. The Bronx is definitely a raw sounding punk band and when you first listen to them you definitely don’t get the impression that Mariachi El Bronx’s sound could possibly be from the same band. Mariachi El Bronx’s first album was released in 2009 under a self titled album. They have since released two albums and a single, which can be found on iTunes, and have been seen on a few other albums.

Now to the meat and potatoes of the band and their sound. The band is made up of six main members and have seven additional musicians helping them out. Now, although the band’s name is Mariachi El Bronx, don’t be fooled. The band has barrowed the mariachi feel for their music, but by no means is actually mariachi music. Lots of acoustic guitars and horns back up their music. The perky up beat feeling their music gives keeps the foot tapping and can sometimes even make you want to get out of your seat and do a little dance.

A few songs of theirs you may want to check out are Cell Mates (has a Youtube music video), Litigation and Spread thin. Checking out these tracks will give you a good spectrum of their music. For those of you out there that may have listened to Sublime, this band may be for you. For those of you that haven’t listened to Sublime or don’t like them, I think this band may be enough of a change of pace from Sublime you might find yourself caught up in listening to them.

Got a minute?

Hi, it's Ike. So, I know I am always asking for help with this, that, or the other things. So far, listeners and supporters of JCE have helped me raise $45 dollars for Relay for Life (an event to raise money to help fight cancer). If you would still like to help with that, you can donate by clicking on the PayPal link right here.

However, that's no the only reason I wanted your attention. On a note that won't cost you any money, I have entered a photo contest on Facebook through a group that does great a iPhoneography blog. With my recent interest in iPhoneography I thought this would be a great opertunity for me. Here is where you come in, click this link and hit the vote button! You can vote once a day until April 9th.

What is this contest for you ask? No money, but the winner gets a large print of their photo on a really nice canvas and Life in lofi (the bloging group) will do a story about me. This could net me some really positive exposer. Click the link to vote and help support this artist.
