When was the last time you angrily tweeted about a product or service you were unhappy about? Or maybe you took to Facebook? How many of those angry public posts got you a response from the company's customer service reps? Customer service is a huge, changing market right now with the widespread use of social media as a form of user testimonials. On this episode we will be talking about why this is a genius idea, how it fits into a social media strategy, and some best practices in the industry.
Who owns your tweets? Your statuses? Your search history? Your pictures? Who owns your online data? On this episode of Social Media Meltdown we will try to bring more attention to this issue, uncover the answers to these questions and more.
We never thought when we started this show that we would ever seriously cover Myspace. We figured that we might cover the official death of the network--if anything--but never its comeback! Recently Myspace unveiled a promo for the new Myspace. It's pretty awesome.
Tonight we broadcasted our very first show live through Google+. In the past we were using LiveStream but in attempts to shorten the duration you have to wait to watch each week's show, we made the switch to Google+. There were a few glitches but it seems to already be working out in everyone's favor... the show went live about 4 hours ago and now the video is ready for you to watch! This definitely beats the old 4 to 5 day wait. Enjoy!
This week on Social Media Meltdown we're answering a question from one of our Facebook fans on how to get more blog readership by utilizing social media. Such a great topic, keep 'em coming guys!
Patriotism has been a trending topic lately on the internet with the excitement over the Olympics and the new outerspace infatuation with the US landing a rover on Mars. Is social media the reason why we know about and are able to cheer for more teams and more athletes from across the globe than previous generations? Is social media going to be the saving grace for the US space program? We discuss all this and more on this episode of Social Media Meltdown!
This week's episode was insipred with my recent brush with nature. I vacationed in the desolate wilderness of Michigan's Upper Penninsula where 4G doesn't exist and people have no idea what an iPad is. Joe is getting ready to adventure out on a camping trip of his own so I thought I'd offer some words of wisdom to him and all the other techies out there!
After all the crazy-ness with Social Media Day Detroit and my vacation, Joe and I finally got to sit down and produce a really awesome show. This week we're answering the age-old question (yes, they've been asking this question since the beginning of time), "Do all businesses really need social media?"
Now that you've heard what we have to say, share your thoughts in the comments below!

Social media is a huge force bringing in more business, building bigger and better communities, spreading positive messages throughout Detroit and beyond, and building collaborative networks in and around Detroit. Social Media Day Detroit was in its third year running this year and it was bigger and cooler than ever.
Hopefully we can see more gatherings of people like these -- the true movers and shakers of Detroit.
