Fat Loser: Getting Motivated

In the two weeks I since I started writing this blog feature I had hoped that my post would help those of you trying to lose the large bits of fat clinging to your body. A few people have commented on the posts and it seems like I might be having some small impact on the lives and fitness of you guys and that is what I had hoped for.

I kind of jumped ahead in my first few post though. I feel like I gave some good advice, but I think it would help things out if you all had some contacts to my weight loss story. Many of you have been listening to me podcast for years now, but most of you have only seen me in my Eric’s Opinion videos over the past year and never saw me before I decided to change my life. Let me take this opportunity to re-introduce myself.

Hello. My name is Eric and I used to be the size of a God Damn House!

That picture is from Blizzcon ‘07. I remember I was super excited to head down there and meet all of my WoW Radio buds. I really can’t express to you in words how much I hate that picture. When I see it I see myself at my absolute worst. I had the time of my life that weekend, but the one thing that I hated about it was my weight. I tried my damnedest to stay out of as many pictures or videos as I could. You can also see me skillfully stepping out of the shot many times in this video from the convention. I made sure that when ever there was a camera, I was either holding it or out of the shot.

The really sad part is that, although I knew I was a blimp, I did not realize until I saw that photo that I was as that huge. Seeing that group shot was the definitive moment were I decided that I was not going to be like that anymore. Thus, my journey began.

Sadly, it was not all rainbows and kittens after that. When you are as overly cream filled as I was, you do not just wish it away. It takes a lot longer then you would think it could. After a year rolled around it was Blizzcon time again and I was ready to show off my progress. I was so proud of how much I had been able to lose in that time, but once again I saw the pictures of my self and was very discouraged.

I felt like I had let my self down. I have lost so much of my marshmallowy physique in that time, but when I see the pictures, all I see is a fat nerd with man boobs. It was a kick to the huevos rancheros, but even I could not deny the progress I was making.

Eventual another Blizzcon rolled around and I was finally starting to see myself as person imagined myself to be. I was still a bit of a fatty, but I couldn’t help but wonder how I ever had the ability to transform myself so much. When I started my quest, I really had no idea I could or even would get to the point I am at now.

I know this post does not have any of the normal tips like that last two, but I really think it is an important one. My goal with it is to show you guys that it is never too late to get even a little healthier. I ofter thought I was too far gone to lose weight, but that is never the case. No one is going to hold your hand. There is no magic pill to make it all go away, but I promise you that if you start working at it, you will wake up one morning, look in the mirror, and think to your self “How the hell did I get so sexy all of a sudden?"
